Peak attendance: 19 Shannon Pekary of Hands High Software demonstrated his outliner ThoughtMill, and discussed its differences from its main competitor, BrainForest. Chief among these is that ThoughtMill allows direct editing and manipulation of topics, whereas BrainForest requires editing in a separate text dialog. He was nagged for a conduit to import/export to the desktop, but this won't happen right away. There was also discussion, and some user sampling, of Hands High's other apps, AirMiles, PhoneLog, and Trip. Attendees are reminded that they're entitled to a free registered version of one of the apps, and should contact Hands High at to specify which they'd prefer. Smartcode Software canceled their appearance, so the limited version of their web browser, HandWeb, was demo'd by SPUG's president. It seemed to work reasonably well on the URL's allowed by the limited version. Thierry Locard then demo'd the Top Gun Wingman proxy-based browser for Pilot, which showed very impressive performance, even on large grayscale images. There were two attendees from 3Com, Steve Lemke, a software engineer from Palm, who was nagged to bring a pager card and wireless modem to the next meeting, and Ed Greenberg, the tech lead for the web marketing pages. The meeting ended with a developer discussion of debugging, features, and history, with some tips from Steve Lemke.
