2005-12-08T07:00-08/08:30-08

Ok, yes, after getting back from swimming and hot tubbing last night, I fell into bed in my clothes again. But I woke up long enough to get ready for bed properly.

I woke up around 07:00-08 and did my finances. The credit card transactions finally cleared, and yes: LodgeNet did double-bill me. Hooray! I get to complain about something!

Because I wasn't sure when I'd be eating lunch today, I wanted to eat a real breakfast this morning, instead of snacking on my jerky. (Besides, I'm actually running low on the jerky, and it's gotta last me 'till I get back to Pittsburgh.)

Again, I managed to make my breakfast slightly different today...

This sparrow was hopping around the interior of the Terrace Cafe. It didn't seem particularly concerned that it was inside. So that leads me to wonder: did the sparrow come into the cafe accidentally, or was it actually smart enough to deliberately come into the cafe?

When I left, the sparrow was still in the cafe, so I guess I'll never know...

I attended the Guru Is In Session: Spam.

2005-12-08T10:30-08/11:00-08

The morning break. I'm not sure if refreshments were available or not—they might have been in the exhibition hall. (I didn't check.)

I did briefly peruse the book vendor who was selling books just outside of the exhibition hall. They're 20% off, so I might pick up a few.

2005-12-08T11:00-08/11:45-08

I attended the Invited Talk: What's the Worst That Could Happen?, but bailed after 11:45-08, because I wanted to attend the rescheduled Invited Talks: Network Black Ops session.

2005-12-08T12:00-08/13:00-08

After dropping my laptop off in my room to recharge, I met Shlomo at the bridge, and we headed over to the Fashion Valley mall for lunch.

I attended the rescheduled Invited Talk: Network Black Ops session.

2005-12-08T14:00-08/15:30-08

I attended the Invited Talk: Preventing Child Neglect in DNSSECbis.

2005-12-08T15:30-08/16:00-08

The afternoon break. Various soft drinks were available. I grabbed a packet of tea, then headed back to my room to give my laptop a brief charge. (I was worried that it might not actually make it through the next session.)

2005-12-08T16:00-08/17:30-08

I attended the Plenary Session: Picking Locks with Cryptology.

2005-12-08T17:30-08/18:00-08

I went back to my room and worked on my blog until it was time for the conference receiption.

2005-12-08T18:00-08/20:00-08

I headed over to the conference reception, sponsored by Sun.

(I know the conference reception was sponsored by Sun because Sun has been credited every single goddamn time the conference reception has been mentioned. But since Sun was (in essence) giving me free alcohol, I suppose I shouldn't begrudge them their advertising.)

This year's reception theme was a casino. Everyone who walked in (except me, apparently) was handed $500 of play money. At the end of the evening, you could purchase raffle tickets for $100 per ticket. Various prizes were raffled off.

I found Rudy and Shlomo hanging out at a table along the wall and then raided the assorted buffets.

FIXME: list food items.

By the time I was done eating, there were only 15 minutes remaining to gamble. Rudy had given me his play money, but instead of trying to cash in (and squeeze into one of the jam-packed tables), I watched Shlomo blow most of his money playing roulette.

(Neither Shlomo nor Rudy won anything.)

2005-12-08T20:00-08/21:00-08

I checked the BoF schedule, and then headed over to the System Administrator Code of Ethics BoF.

2005-12-08T21:00-08/21:30-08

I went back to check the BoF board, but didn't see anything else that really interested me.

Hot tubbing!

2005-12-08T22:30-08/23:30-08

Rudy, Shlom and I went back to my room to swap pictures. I was really happy with how the diving pictures turned out.

The wireless seemed to down. After Rudy and Shlomo left, I called up the technical support number. Yes, they know there's a problem; they've been working on it for 90 minutes. I need to direct all billing questions to the hotel. Finally, they did have traffic restrictions early in the week, but they adjusted them. (As I previously wrote: gee, I wonder why?)

The wireless network is still down, so I think I'll turn in early, get up early, and do my finances then.

Tomorrow is the last day of LISA, boo-hoo. It some ways, it feels like the week just flew past, but in other ways, it feels like everything was moving in slow-motion.

I'm going to try to end the week with another visit to the Gaslamp Quarter. Will it work out? We'll have to see...
