i headed down to newport beach for a night.

the "back bay" of newport beach, down the street from paul's place.
the road on the bridge is the pacific coast hiway; i decided to take
it to san diego. mistake! i was picturing it as a wide
open road sweeping along by the ocean. actually, it goes through
every town on the way and has stoplights every 10 feet.

this park on the hill above the "back bay" was started two years ago
on the former site of a golf course. makes a nice place to walk. comments

very expensive homes up here. paul says people were opposed to the
land being turned into private property, but that money talked in the
end.

fancy, fancy. not sure what purpose the glass wall serves other than
to reinforce the social/economic "this is not for you" division. comments

all kinds of birds circle around watching for fish. here are three
herons. they were huge, as you can tell from the fact that they
showed up on my camera.

gratuitous silly shot of the day. ok, it's just a water fountain, but
i like the idea of attaching a bowl to the side of it so people can
use it for their dogs. good thinking. comments
