i got to palm springs late, then found my directions to the bar were
just terrible, so i had to call and be led in by phone and got there
at 6:15 for the 5:00 mixer. the mountains are beautiful in the
sunset, much like tucson. comments

this is the first photo i've ever taken while driving. it was
actually safer than it sounds, since the camera has an lcd on the back
you can use instead of the viewfinder. just propped it on the
steering wheel and hit the button at what looked like a good time.

not much happening at the rainbow cactus, etc. on a tuesday night, and
both of the guys i planned to stay with canceled at the last minute,
so i checked into motel 6 and got some work done. woke in the morning
to find very impressive mountains outside. comments

the noah's ark house. too bad the lighting was no good. it's a cool
house, glass on both sides for half its length. comments

now that's more my idea of a hotel room. no, the camera isn't tilted
much; the joints just aren't square. charm: be funky. comments

my second night in palm springs, i met a nice guy at the rainbow
cactus and spent that night and the following night at his place.
this is the view of the mountains at dusk from the back of his house.

it's hard to find a house in palm springs that doesn't have a pool.
it's really nice; you roll out of bed, take six steps, and you're in
the pool. comments

the view from the rainbow cactus parking lot. that restaurant across
the street was the first one i saw with the famous spritzers (a
sprinkler system that spits a mist of water on people dining outside)
in action.

i stopped at the tourist information center and asked for a
recommendation of a good mexican restaurant. i was sent to las
casuelas. good choice -- some of the best mexican food i had on this
trip.

i'm told this is the way to see the mountains; you can ride the cars
to the top. unfortunately, they're replacing the cars and were closed
until september. next trip. comments

as you ride the interstate toward palm springs, there are windmills
covering the hills and valleys; an impressive sight. you can't really
tell here, but there are windmills beyond the train and more all along
the ridge of the far hill.

i never got to a spot on the way out of plam springs at which i could
snap shots of the fields of windmills. here are a few snapped while
driving.

yes, those spots on the windshield are rain. it never rains in
palm springs, but it did on both of my last two days there. not sure
what to make of that. comments
