A Fresh New Scent

Some changes to the blog have occurred, and more are on the way. I'm now running AdSense ads over there in the sidebar, for one. I've also enabled comments and backlinks. Commenting on the blog requires that you be a registered Blogger user, submit the proper word to the word verification engine, and pass my moderation. It may seem like a high barrier, but I think it's about equivalent to simply emailing me, which is what I expected people to do when I first started.

This demands work was conceived as a playground for me to explore writing, both in general and "for the web", and publishing to an audience. I've long had difficulty in regularly updating the blog because I was never sure what the focus was, or what it should be. Who are my readers? What are they interested in?

I've come to the realization that what the blog, or at least this blog, is best at, is as an outlet for my personal voice. Since I have a lot of interests, it's been tempting to categorize and subdivide them, and challenging to maintain something I thought was a unified narrative in a single publishing channel. Now though, I'm going to try just writing and publishing here first, and if it becomes clear to me that a given topic or subject could use its own space outside This demands work, then I'll make a place for it. This may result in more blogs, some of which I already have ideas for. If so, I'll mention them here, and there will always be links to them so you the reader can get around easily.

I'm also reserving the right to edit previous posts, something I've always been willing to let myself do but haven't made the time for. One batch of edits I'll be making shortly is in cleaning up the format of many old posts, and perhaps some spelling and grammatical fixes. I also have some old blog content from previous blogs I want to add, if only for historical completeness.
