Subject: Asimov Centennial Meetup

Ms Sheila Williams, Editor
Asimov’s Science Fiction

Dear Ms Williams,

As I’m sure you of all people are aware, Isaac Asimov’s one-hundredth birthday will be in January. My wife (a biochemist who lectures at CUNY in Brooklyn) and I feel that there should be some sort of gathering in Brooklyn to celebrate the occasion. After joining the discussion on Reddit (http://bit.ly/Asimov100), it seemed like no-one else was organizing anything, so we set up a Meetup for the purpose, tentatively at a bagel shop near Dr Asimov’s father’s fourth candy/magazine store, on Saturday January 4th at 2pm.

If you or your magazine are already planning something, or know of anyone in New York fandom better qualified to run this than we are, we’d be happy to abdicate. (Those I spoke to at Heliosphere and the NY Sci-Fi Meetup were interested but didn’t volunteer.) Otherwise we would like to invite you to attend and be billed as a guest, along with anyone else at Asimov’s magazine you think appropriate. Our URL is https://www.meetup.com/Asimov-Centennial-Meetup.
