Career

I'm in the Oracle Corporation Marketing Department where I am the Senior Director of Technical Marketing. We're the folks who prepare demo systems at public events (product announcements and tradeshows for example). We also set-up demonstrations that tour the country with our seminar programs.

When I joined Oracle in 1982 we had 25 employees. Over the years I have introduced electronic publishing into our company, designed its first documentation standards, worked on research projects in document management and decision support, and designed Oracle's first GUI product, Easy*SQL®. I am a past contributor to Oracle Magazine where I have written about interesting tricks and techniques with SQL.

In 1994 we put Oracle onto the information highway when we created Oracle's web site. Our department published all the marketing and informational materials on our web site and designed the home page which was recognized by INFOWORLD in "THE WEB HOTLIST."

After obtaining a M.S. in Industrial Engineering at Stanford University, I began my career in the Operations Research department of American Airlines when their general offices were in New York City. My projects included redesign of Ohare Airport and the optimal strategy for scheduling aircraft for maintenance. I created a time-series database which was named AAIMS that was used for econometric analysis in marketing and corporate planning. The project was very well received. It was covered in several publications including Harvard Business Review, industry magazines and newsletters. We were featured as a case study in an IBM product brochure.

Returning to The Bay Area, I was the Northern California regional salesmanager for a computer services company. After a couple years working with clients in Big Six firms and major banks, I joined Dataquest, the market research company where eventually I became Vice President of Information Systems.

Send me a note if you know the grammar for adding an apostrophe after a name that ends with two of the letter s!
